Is There Such Thing as Keto Candy?

Thanks to my friends at Kiss My Keto, there is.

First thing’s first: if you’re not familiar with the Keto Diet, check out this resource. It explains the high-fat, very-low-carb diet in a (hopefully) unbiased way.

If you can’t find something, make it. So, that’s what I did with my Sane Guide to the Keto Diet.

Anyway… the carb restrictions on a Keto diet make it extremely difficult to enjoy anything sweet.

I’ve seen a BUNCH of failed Keto candy recipes and products. So, the new Kiss My Keto Gummy Bears are a HUGE step in the low-carb movement.

Why Keto Candy is Hard to Make (well)

To give you an idea, most “classic Keto” proponents suggest 20g of carbohydrates per day. An apple has 18-34g, depending on its size.

However, the loophole many Keto companies have been playing with is the “net carb” count.

Net carbs are the number of carbohydrates your body actually USES as sugar – AKA fuel for energy creation in the body.

The equation for net carb count is:

Net carbs = Total carbs – fiber – sugar alcohols

That said, fiber isn’t a sweet flavor. Most people probably think “cardboard” or “sand” when they think of the flavor of fiber.

But sugar alcohols… now that is something else entirely.

Sugar Alcohols: The Sweet Loophole for Keto Desserts (and Candy!)

Sugar alcohols are what they sound like: sweet alcohols that can be used in lieu of sugar, if you know how to work with Them.

Best of all, many of them have close to 0 calories per serving. So, you can use them to make desserts that are lower carb AND lower calories.

They’re so close to 0 calories that, while they’ll be reported as a carb on your nutritional label, they’ll be subtracted from your “net carbs” count for the day.

They don’t spike insulin, and they can be made into syrups and granulated forms for use in baking / cooking.

The downside?

Some people react poorly to them – reporting digestive upset, and some still experience insulin spikes as a result of consuming them.

As for me, they seem to react fine in my body, and I LOVE products that use sugar alcohols in lieu of processed sugar.

I feel better, I get to enjoy something sweet, and my sleep doesn’t seem to be messed up (like when I consume regular sugar).

Keto Gummies from Kiss My Keto Review

Okay, enough setup.

These new Keto Gummies from Kiss My Keto are no joke.

I’ll admit: gummy candies aren’t necessarily one of those things I’d missed much when I first started looking for healthier options.

Or, at least… I’d crave the sugar-coated sour ones, like Sour Patch Kids.

But mannnn, these Keto Gummies are JUST like the candies I remember enjoying once in a while as a kid.

I especially remember the fruitier candies around Easter & springtime. That was probably the main time I’d actually be given gummy bears or see them sitting around the house.

So, when I got wind from Kiss My Keto that they were launching this new product, I was intrigued.

I know there are a ton of innovative people out there, working to make more low-carb options of favorite foods. After all, why eat the less-healthy version if the healthier one is just as enjoyable?

There Are 3 Flavors of Keto Gummies from Kiss My Keto.

And they’re actually distinctively recognizable!

That might sound harsh, but I truly don’t remember noticing much of a difference between classic gummy bear flavors.

The flavors in this first round of Kiss My Keto Gummies are:

  • Peach

  • Apple

  • Strawberry

…and I like all of them.

Usually, in variety candies with distinctive flavors, there’s always “that one” you don’t really want to get.

But I genuinely love each of these flavors and I could tell you which one you gave me, if I ate it with my eyes closed.

That’s huge.

Kiss My Keto Gummies Nutrition Facts & Serving Size

I also love that these little gummies come in convenient packs.

Each one is only 54 calories and makes up a small handful of gummy bears.

As someone who’ll finish the entire bag of whatever – regardless of number of servings – this allows me to better portion control.

I enjoy a bag, and my sweet fix is gone.

Best of all – the entire ingredients list is naturally-derived. I can get behind their choices for each item on it.

These Keto Gummy Bears are also:

  • Gluten-free

  • Dairy-free

  • Soy-free

  • Infused with MCTs

Yeah, that’s incredible. No high-fructose corn syrup in sight.

The ingredients are:

Prebiotic soluble fiber from chicory root, gelatin, Erythritol, MCT Oil, 2% or less of: Citric acid, Malic acid, Pectin, Natural fruit flavor (apple, strawberry, peach), coconut oil (contains Carnauba wax), Added colors (Purple carrot juice, chlorophyll, beta carotene), sodium citrate, steviol glycosides (Stevia).

The only bad news is that if you’re allergic to tree nuts (coconut), or vegan (gelatin), these aren’t for you.

But for the most part – these are an excellent alternative nutritionally AND taste-wise for a gummy candy treat.

Final Thoughts on These Keto Gummies

While this product isn’t a “healthy food” in the sense that we need it, I love that Kiss My Keto is making “fun foods” healthier.

I wouldn’t touch traditional gummy bears with a pole anymore. But I love getting to enjoy this version of them.

Eating something that’s fun and won’t harm the way I feel or perform is important to me.

And even though I don’t follow a strict Keto diet, I like these for the same reason I buy a lot of Keto products: they’re a healthier option.

Whether you’re strict Keto or not, I highly recommend you look into making swaps like this to benefit your health in general.

Like I mentioned in the beginning: if it tastes just like the original, but it’s better for you, why not treat yourself to the healthy version?

Our bodies deserve the best, and you’ll feel the benefits of making swaps like this in your everyday life.

Small changes add up quickly.
