Glee Raw

Sometimes, social media and the Internet suck.  But a lot of the time, they're really cool and introduce you to new people and companies.  These can be wonderful experiences that can show you just how great our health-minded community is growing.

Like Glee Raw, for example.

This is a company based in the UK, and I had the opportunity to video chat with their owner and founder, Adegbola Adeyemo, a few months back.  We discussed how his company is still in the very beginning stages and it was just so cool to talk with someone in real-time who was halfway across the globe, all because I'd happened upon his Instagram page one day and thought their product sounded good.

Glee Raw is a beautiful company that is blooming to promote good all around.  Their bars are 100% cruelty-free and a portion of all proceeds goes to Pencils of Promise, an organization working to bring quality education to all children globally.  That's something we can all agree on, no matter our dietary choices!

Long story short: a long shipping period and some schedule delays on my end later, and suddenly here I am with the long-awaited review of Glee Raw's beautiful products!  There are only two flavors as of right now: Classic and Double Chocolate.  Both are raw vegan, gluten-free, and refined sugar-free.  They also happen to be paleo!  Woohoo, clean treats coming together! 

Let's get a closer look at each, yes?

Classic

I'll admit that I've tried quite a few raw/fruit & nut-based bars in my time and a lot of them tend to taste the same.  Plus, the description of being the "Classic" flavor doesn't really narrow things down for me as far as what I'm looking for in tasting the first Glee Raw product.  However, I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the Classic Glee Raw bar!

Many similar products that use dried fruit as the "glue" to hold all the other ingredients together usually go with dates as their main base.  Glee Raw chose a different route by using dried figs to hold down the fort.  I'm O B S E S S E D with fresh figs, as shown by my creation of #FigFreakout on Twitter when they were first in season here in Texas when I was searching for places to get my hands on them.  That said, I don't know why I was so blown away by the difference this simple switch made!  But it was a huge change indeed, and I couldn't have enjoyed the fresh idea more.

This flavor is sweet, but it didn't leave me craving every other sweet thing in sight (or not) the rest of the day.  That's a huge problem for me with almost any sugar.  Even natural sugar.  The Goji berries added a nice nuance to the flavor, leaving a tangy aftertaste that is pleasant and I think helpful with avoiding more sugar cravings.  

This bar is also not sticky, with a subtle crunch from the nuts and seeds that is often lost with date-based bars.  It was refreshing, left me satisfied longer than many fruit & nut energy bars do, and an overall wonderful upgrade from what I'm used to in this area of the natural goods industry. 

Ingredients:  Chia, Goji berry, cocoa beans, raw nuts - almond, dry fruits - figs.

Rating:  10/10

Double Chocolate

All the things I loved about the texture in the Classic Flavor are repeated in this bar, too.  I think that's so important in a company: they've created consistency in what to expect when you take a bite!

I will admit, though, that I was hoping for a stronger chocolate flavor than this one delivers.  The taste is delicious, don't get me wrong.  And the benefits of no sugar cravings following the end of the snack were still here, thanks to the use of figs instead of dates again.  But in a "Double Chocolate" bar, the cocoa just wasn't as noticeable as I'd like.  Still delicious, but the cocoa could use some work!

Ingredients:  Chia, Goji berry, cocoa beans, cocoa butter, cocoa pieces, coconut butter, coconut pieces, raw nuts - almonds, dry fruits - figs.

Rating:  7/10

Final Verdict

If you want to have a bar that truly does energize naturally, falls into many different dietary categories, and supports a great cause: invest in some of these babies.  Glee Raw is a new company, as I've already mentioned, and they truly appreciate each new order and customer they receive.  Give them a shot and you won't be disappointed! :)
